Old and new city of Rhodes

Rhodes city – a jewel, shimmering with all facets of its rich history. Antiquity and Middle Ages is in harmony here with modernity, creating together a unique look of Rhodes. The city has been founded in 408 BC & it still continues to live its life! Just imagine, what kind of ancient land you’re going to tread! Journey in the “time machine” starts from Monte Smith. Here was one of the two ancient Acropolises. You will see skyward columns of the Temple of Apollo Pythian, the ruins of the Temple of Aphrodite, the stadium where the ancient Olympic Games were held and the ancient amphitheater, where you have to think about the meaning of life, sitting on the benches, where at one time sat Cicero and Julius Caesar, learning public speaking skills .

Then the “time machine” makes another stop at the walls with strong gates and towers, narrow streets paved with pebbles & byzantine cathedrals – welcome to the era of the Middle Ages chivalry! It’s hard to believe that this is not set to Hollywood film about knights, but all this – and the Palace of the Grand Masters, and Knights Hospital – the most that neither is true, has come down to us almost intact.

The new city starts from the quay at the port of Mandraki, where, as says one of the versions, stood the Colossus of Rhodes – one of the seven wonders of the world. There is also the Aquarium, which collects all kinds of inhabitants of the Mediterranean Sea.

In the remaining free time, you can take a walk through the streets of old and new towns, drink & eat some greek food in outdoor cafes and, maybe, buy something in small family stores in the shopping district – Howrah. This city attracts, and you definitely going to come back here again and again!

Cruise to Symi island

A rare visitor can leave Simi without buying something. This small (58 sq. km.) island is considered the world capital of natural sponges. Here they are mined, processed and sold – big and small, dark and light, hard and soft .. for every taste!
But, of course, tourists come here not only to buy those famous sponges. Symi – one of the most beautiful islands of the Dodecanese, with lovely bays, coves, mountains with ancient houses and narrow streets, gazing toward the sky. How nice, just to sit here in a small tavern, drink wine and eat unusual shrimps, that can be catched only near the coast of Symi!

But for some people the main attraction of the island – Monastery of Panormitis, dedicated to Archangel Michael. Since Byzantine times and up to present – second most important monastery of Dodecanese never stopped acting. The monks carefully keep their most precious relic – an icon of Michael made of pure gold.

Travel to Symi – that’s a plenty of pleasure during the boat ride on the Aegean Sea and the same number of impressions about a wonderful little island!
